BEd (Hons) MA
About Me
I have worked with young people with SEND for over 34 years as a qualified teacher, both in London and here in Somerset. I have worked in special schools, an Opportunity Playgroup and a mainstream primary Autism Resource Base. In 2015 I joined the Autism and Communication Team as part of Somerset Council, and for the last 3 years have been the Lead Advisory Teacher (Autism and Communication) in the Access To Inclusion Team.
As part of my role I have provided tailored strategies and interventions to support autistic children and young people, as well as children and young people with SLCN, in accessing the curriculum and achieving their full potential. I have delivered training sessions to school staff on Understanding autism, Understanding SLCN and how to implement inclusive practices. I have worked closely with SENCOs, teachers, parents and external professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for the children and young people. I have undertaken classroom observations and assessments to identify barriers to learning and recommended strategies and adjustments.

'Having this review time with Julie has been valuable. It has been difficult to speak to anybody directly at the LA to discuss our tricky case at the moment so having Julie able to check in on things and update us has proven invaluable' SENCo
'Julie as ever was so helpful, insightful in her questioning and ideas for support' SENCo
