Emma Cambourne: Inclusive Communication
Emma will guide you to develop a strong foundation of knowledge and understanding around effective communication. She will introduce a range of practical strategies to help you confidently support children and young people with speech, language, and communication needs within your setting. You will have opportunities to explore how to create an inclusive communication environment and discover tools that make this possible. The session will also include learning key, simple sign language to enhance communication.
Julie Hawketts: Understanding Autism
Julie will offer insights into the diverse ways Autism can affect students' communication, behaviour and sensory experiences. Attendees learn practical strategies for creating a more inclusive classroom environment and fostering positive relationships with autistic pupils. The session highlights the importance of empathy, patience and consistency when supporting autistic children. Staff will leave with an increased awareness of the challenges faced by autistic students and a toolkit of approaches to help them thrive in school.
Rachel Walker: Understanding AuDHD
Rachel will support you to build a curiosity of the dual diagnosis of Autism and ADHD (AuDHD), focusing on how the differences affect the young person’s experiences in school. You will learn practical strategies to create supportive, flexible environments that reduce barriers and play to neurodivergent strengths. The session examines the unique positives and challenges of a young person with both an autism and ADHD diagnosis, emphasising that it is not a simple combination of the two conditions but a complex and paradoxical profile.
